Department Selection

Department Selection

After choosing the country and school, it is time to choose the department and field. The client should be very careful here and analyze the rapidly developing and changing professions and the visions of these professions in 5 to 10 years. Because a student will practice the profession they will receive education in at least 5 years later.

The second important factor to consider when choosing a field is whether to continue in the field or in academia after graduation. A client who wants to continue in the field should choose an applied university and department. A client who wants to continue in the academy should definitely choose a university with a strong theoretical aspect. However, it is very difficult to both enter and graduate from universities with a strong theoretical aspect.

Another factor to consider when choosing a field is the philosophy of undergraduate education. Undergraduate education is not specialized education and is education in general subjects related to the field. Many universities establish departments with fancy names in order to attract candidates. Candidates should be careful about this trap and choose basic departments related to the field they will receive education in. For example, a student should choose the psychology department instead of studying an undergraduate department related to speech therapy. Or instead of studying a department related to foreign trade, he/she should study economics. After studying a general department in his/her undergraduate studies, he/she should leave his/her specialization to graduate school.

In choosing a field, the personal development and skills of the clients, their interests in the field and their experiences in the field, and the family's plans for the future are also important. The main factor we need to pay attention to here is to reveal the knowledge and experiences of the client and the family and act accordingly.
